Good Overall Health
Though side effects are rare, patients must be in good overall health before receiving botulinum toxin injections to minimize the risk of complications after treatment.
Age
Though BOTOX can soften wrinkles for older patients, the best results are often achieved when patients start BOTOX treatment in their late 20s or early 30s. BOTOX Cosmetic is not recommended for those under age 18.
Healthy Skin
If your skin is suffering from injuries or an infection, you will have to wait for your skin to heal before receiving an injection. Receiving BOTOX while dealing with a skin infection can make your condition worse.
Allergies
You should disclose any allergies you have to Dr. Adams before receiving an injectable, even if you don't think your allergies will be affected by BOTOX. Dr. Adams will also review your medical history before administering any injectables.
Pregnancy

Potential Side Effects From BOTOX Injections
BOTOX Cosmetic is considered a safe procedure by a majority of doctors and has few side effects. However, like any procedure, there are some potential side effects. This is why it's important to disclose your medical history with Dr. Adams before receiving treatment.
You may experience some mild side effects that should subside within a few days after leaving our practice. They include:
- Headache
- Flu-like symptoms
- Temporary drooping in the face
- Nausea
If you experience blurred vision, paralysis outside of the injection site, or difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking, contact our Albuquerque, NM, office immediately.
Getting the Most From Your Results
Sunscreen
Excessive exposure to sunlight can reduce the effectiveness of BOTOX treatment. Wearing sunscreen daily will protect your skin and help you maintain a youthful appearance.
Skincare
