View on GoogleA Focus on Sleep Apnea and Airway Dentistry
As a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Albuquerque dentist Dr. Adams can provide innovative solutions for sleep disorders in patients of all ages.
In adults, the symptoms of sleep apnea can include loud snoring, episodes of stopped breathing while sleeping, daytime sleepiness, and more. Sleep apnea can often be managed with oral appliance therapy or non-ablative laser therapy.
In children, sleep-disordered breathing presents differently than it does in adults. Your child may be dealing with sleep-disordered breathing if they are experiencing symptoms like hyperactivity that limits their ability to focus (especially in school), teeth grinding during the night, bedwetting, and other behavioral issues. At Peak Family Dentistry, we have a passion for pediatric airway medicine and are well-versed in the area. When treating sleep apnea or sleep disorders in children, we look at the function and development of the mouth. Many things can lead to sleep-disordered breathing such as small jaws, jaw misalignment, abnormal tongue movement due to restrictions related to tongue ties, large tonsils, and overcrowded teeth. Our practice focuses on ways to improve arch form and space as well as improve on functions of better breathing day and night. If your child has already been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, has had tonsils and adenoid removed, and continues to suffer from sleep-disordered breathing, we work closely with your child’s physician at resolving other issues related to your child’s airway space.
Gentle Laser Dentistry With the CO2 LightScalpel Laser
Dr. Adams uses the CO2 LightScalpel® laser for gentle and precise soft tissue procedures. Traditional surgical methods required the use of scalpels and sutures, which could be painful and cause trauma to surrounding healthy areas of the mouth. However, laser surgery offers unique advantages because it:
- Addresses only the treatment area, while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed
- Puts less stress on surrounding tissues, reducing swelling and discomfort
- Seals blood vessels as it works, minimizing blood loss
- Eliminates bacteria, reducing the risk of infection
- Results in faster recovery times
Dr. Adams uses the CO2 LightScalpel laser for procedures such as tongue-tied surgery, gum disease therapy, and sleep apnea treatment. It can also be used in non-ablative laser therapy for the treatment of an elongated soft palate. Treating the elongated soft palate can reduce symptoms of snoring and tone the soft tissue that obstructs the airspace in patients with OSA. Non-ablative laser therapy can be used in conjunction with CPAP or an oral appliance to help adults manage OSA. Our Albuquerque dentist can determine if you're a good candidate for laser surgery during a consultation.

Making Visits Easier For Anxious Patients
I have high dentist anxiety/sensory challenges around dental care. My experience with Peak Family Dentistry was phenomenal. From my very first phone call scheduling, each interaction with staff members was so welcoming and gave me a sense of peace. The hygienist Cheryl gave me so much space and encouragement. Each staff member was thorough and helpful. Not once was I shamed for not going to the dentist like I should (it had been several years since I went to the dentist), which has been my experience in the past. I’m so grateful to have had this experience. Compassionate, kind, thorough care.
View on GoogleI had an old crown removed and a new one put in yesterday. It was truly a painless experience. I was concerned that the procedure would be anywhere between very uncomfortable and quite painful. There was no pain, and very little discomfort. The tooth, a front tooth, looks perfectly natural. I cannot say enough good about Dr. Adams and this practice. I’ve been a Dr. Adams patient for years getting cleanings and the occasional filling, and now I’m really committed to patronize this practice for years to come! I’m a very happy customer!

We are flexible when it comes to payment methods and will work with you. Options include insurance, major credit cards, and CareCredit® financing.Discussing Alternatives
Some procedures are prohibitively expensive for households. That's why our dentist will happily suggest less expensive alternatives that can achieve comparable results without the hefty price tag. When Is It Time to Visit the Dentist?
Every Six Months
It's important that you receive a professional dental cleaning at least once every six months. Doing so prevents harmful plaque and bacteria from damaging your teeth and gums. Also, when our dentist can take a look at your mouth twice a year, she will be able to identify any serious issues like oral cancer as early in their development as possible.
When You Have a Concern
Do you have a persistent toothache or bleeding gums? Have you had a tooth cracked or knocked out in an accident? Do you have unusual growths or discoloration in your mouth? If you are experiencing any of these or other issues, you should schedule an appointment with our dentist as soon as possible so she can diagnose your issue and create a treatment plan.
Before a Big Day
If you have a wedding, graduation, or big presentation coming up, you'll want your smile to look its very best. Albuquerque dentist Dr. Adams and her team offer several cosmetic services that can upgrade your smile. The sooner you contact us the better, since many cosmetic treatment plans require a few weeks or months to produce the best possible results.
