A Family Dental Office in Albuquerque

Our Albuquerque practice cares for children and adults. From routine dental visits to conversations about jaw function and airway concerns, the starting point is understanding the person in the chair.

Dr. Billie Adams and the team can explain what they see, why a test or treatment is being recommended, and what happens next. Bring your questions—we want you to understand your care.

Dental Imaging for Individual Treatment Planning

This clip shows a patient being positioned at our imaging equipment. Imaging may help the team gather information for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Your clinician will explain which imaging is appropriate and why. The type of scan depends on the question being evaluated.

Digital Impressions with an Intraoral Scanner

Our team uses an intraoral scanner to capture digital views of the teeth. In this clip, you can see the handheld scanner and the images appearing on the screen.

Ask how digital scanning fits your proposed restorative or orthodontic treatment.

Dental Technology Guided by Your Care Team

Equipment is part of the story. So are the people explaining the visit and caring for you along the way.

Our practice also offers CO₂ LightScalpel® soft-tissue procedures and photobiomodulation, or red-light therapy, in selected care plans. Ask Dr. Adams about the role of each in your treatment.

Digital Impressions & Dental Imaging: What’s the Difference?

A digital impression records the visible surfaces of your teeth with a handheld intraoral scanner. The team can use the resulting digital model when planning appropriate restorative or orthodontic care. You can see the scan developing on the screen in our office video.

Dental X-rays answer a different question by showing structures that a surface scan cannot. Cone-beam computed tomography, or CBCT, can provide three-dimensional information for selected diagnostic or planning needs. It is not the same as an optical impression, and every patient does not need a CBCT scan.

Imaging should be selected for a clinical reason. Ask why a particular exam is recommended, what information it will provide, and whether previous images or another approach could answer the question. This conversation is especially useful when arranging care for a child.

Common Questions

Will every visit include a scan?

No single imaging or scanning plan applies to every visit. Your clinician can explain which examination is recommended and why it is relevant to your care.

Is an intraoral scan the same as a dental X-ray?

No. An intraoral scanner records visible tooth surfaces for a digital impression. X-ray imaging provides different information about internal structures. Ask which type of scan is being discussed.

Do children automatically need a CBCT scan?

No. Imaging should be selected for the clinical question and the individual patient. Discuss the expected benefit, alternatives, and radiation considerations with the clinician.

Can I bring questions about jaw or airway concerns?

Yes. Describe your concerns when booking so the team can help arrange a suitable consultation. Bring relevant information from your other care providers.
